WIB Connection

WIBs were established as a result of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. This act is designed to create a means for all citizens to access jobs and provide numerous ways to advance in a given employment situation. WIA is also intended to assist businesses by connecting employers and educators in order to create a highly trained, capable workforce.

WIBS are responsible for planning the allocation of federal funds, creating and disseminating local employment policy, and encouraging the growth of partnerships within the local community. The local employment directives created by WIBs must address current needs as well as anticipate future directions in order to promote long-term economic growth in an area.

WIBs must create employment policies that address unemployment rates, allow unemployed individuals the skills and training they need to re-enter the workforce, provide employers with incentives to continue operating in an area, and ensure that educators provide students with skills needed to succeed in society. WIBs play a significant role in the ultimate social and economic well-being of their communities!
