O*NET
5.0 Database - The O*NET 5.0 Database is now available on the O*NET
consortium web site Developer's Corner.
The O*NET 5.0 database represents a major milestone for the O*NET
project. The major data collection underway has resulted in a significant
update to the database. Highlights include:
- New and revised Task Statements for 455 O*NET-SOC occupations
- Addition of Task Statement ratings (importance and frequency) for
54 O*NET-SOC occupations
- Updated Abilities, Work Activities, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Context
data for 54 occupations
- Addition of Training and Work Experience, and Education data for 54
occupations
- Addition of Work Styles data for 54 occupations
- Addition of metadata to the file structure to specify source of data
and date of update
- Addition of Emerging Task StatementsAddition of Detailed Work Activities
While the new data marks an improvement in collection methodology and
data currency, we encourage developers to familiarize themselves with
the nuances of the new data prior to implementing the database within
their products. In the upcoming months, the O*NET project will be distributing
"metadata" files that will include information aimed at helping
developers evaluate the quality of each and every data value (e.g., standard
error and/or confidence intervals). The O*NET project will also provide
general guidelines or recommendations for interpreting the metadata.
O*NET
